Local Authorities

Increasing recycling and composting rates is a key element of our work. We appreciate the enormous progress that local authorities have made in increasing recycling rates more than seven-fold since 2000, but there is still more to be done.

We intend to work closely with local authorities and their representative organisation, the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA), as well as our partners in Zero Waste Scotland and the CRNS, to build on the progress to date.

New training course dates announced.

Local Authority Training

Training for local authorities and other organisations involved in recycling collection schemes.

This training will include both the existing introductory and advanced recycling managers training courses in Scotland, and the delivery of a new seminar series on key subjects, to be determined in conjunction with SWAG and other interested parties such as the CRN.

Batteries

WRAP sponsors a variety of collection scheme trials (two kerbside, a community drop-off  and a retailer take back).

We also support a small scheme which handles the batteries collected by the Dumfries and Galloway Fire Service as part of their home fire safety visits.

It is proposed to continue funding these schemes until the Producer Responsibility regime comes into effect, in order to avoid a hiatus.
