Digestate market development in Scotland
Closing date: 19 March 10

The work will provide Zero Waste Scotland with a full understanding of the potential for digestate use in different market sectors in Scotland, to allow Zero Waste Scotland to target future market development in a cost-effective way that maximises the sustainable use of digestate. It will also provide a much greater understanding of AD processing capacity and potential in Scotland, highlighting any potential issues so that they can be tackled early on.

WRAP wishes to build on the existing Recycling Commercialisation Centre to establish a partnership called the Recycling Research Commercialisation Centre. This partnership will focus on research and development projects to address recycling technology gaps. The successful contractor(s) will work with WRAP to identify the scope of suitable projects to meet this objective and facilitate the commercialisation of these new technologies or processes.

The aim of this work is to develop up to seven stakeholder consultations, which will ask for responses on draft Quality Protocols developed under the Waste Protocols Project.

From 1 April 2010 WRAP will be taking on the role of leading a single body focussed on driving improvements in resource efficiency.  As part of this work WRAP would like to develop a strategy and programme of activities to drive more resource efficient product design and design in the built environment.  This project is to provide project management support to a small team delivering this work within WRAP.

WRAP wishes to procure hardware and IT Project Management Services to replace the existing Servers and Storage Area Network.

In 2009, WRAP published Meeting the UK climate challenge: the contribution of resource efficiency.  This study highlighted the contribution resource efficiency could make to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in the UK and due to UK consumption.

WRAP now wish to build on this research to show the environmental value to the UK of improving Resource Efficiency, in terms of water use, resource depletion and ecological footprint.  This work should use the existing strategies and scenarios to 2020 established in the above report.  As with the original work, it would consider the full scope of resource efficiency (a whole life approach).
