Leading companies across the construction supply chain have committed to collectively halve the amount of construction waste sent to landfill by 2012. Just a few weeks after the launch of The Construction Commitments: Halving Waste to Landfill, over 30 organisations have signed up to WRAP’s (Waste & Resources Action Programme) voluntary agreement - including leading clients and contractors, Land Securities, Defence Estates and Laing O’Rourke.

WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) today announces new funding to boost the Welsh recycling and reprocessing sector. The Welsh Assembly Government funding, managed by WRAP Cymru, will be available to companies tackling commercial food waste - such as that from food factories and ready meal manufacturers – and waste from construction, demolition and excavation. As well as boosting the Welsh economy, the aim is to keep waste out of landfill, and provide businesses in Wales with locally sourced reprocessed material. This will save them time and money in having to seek materials from outside the country, and will reduce CO2 emissions from transport.

Electrical goods with recycled content will soon be available on the high street thanks to a WRAP (Waste & Resources Action Programme) funded project. Indesit has become the first company to successfully incorporate recycled content derived from the UK waste stream within white goods on a large scale. The project delivers substantial savings in raw materials and costs.
